About To My Behavior

My Story

If you’re here, chances are you’re family, you know me personally, or someone sent you my way. However you found me, I’m glad you’re here. For those who are new, let me introduce myself.

My name is Kimberly Rodriguez, and my story began in good O’l San Antonio, Texas where the weather is hot and your tea sweet!

My husband and I said “I do” more than 20 years ago. He brings laughter, fun, and disorder. I bring a more serious nature and LOVE of organization.  We learned a lot from one another, mostly we have accepted each other’s quirks and joined forces to either in the moment work on it or laugh about it! Through it all, creating a stable, loving home has remained important to both of us. We are blessed with 5 children. 3 Biological and 2 stepchildren.

Where My Passion Began

My professional journey began with a degree in Occupational Therapy, and National Certification in 2003.

In 2007, while working in pediatric health, I developed a particular interest in supporting autistic children.  In these children I saw brilliant kids behind their own eyes fighting to be heard. That interest grew into a passion as I helped children build skills and take their next steps toward independence.

Each case brought all kinds of behaviors! Children who struggle to sit and focus and others that were combative and angry. While most clinicians would pass on the client. I wouldn’t! I couldn’t! I kept seeing their eyes crying for help.  I wanted to understand their experiences and find ways to help them feel heard.

As my caseload grew, so did the complexity of the behaviors I encountered, aggression being one of the most common. Teaching a child how to successfully regulate was an amazing experience to watch unfold.

That’s when understanding behavior became my jam.

With each new case it was an invitation to me to look closer, what made a situation difficult, and what support might help. My caseload increasingly included children with autism, ADHD, and other developmental and behavioral challenges. If a child was struggling with behavior, the familiar response became, “Kim will take them!”

And that’s where our story would begin. Together, we would discover strengths, interests, and talents that could become starting points for learning and connection. Together we would unlock a secret gift per se no one knew they had.

Finding Another Way to Help

Around 2016, I began seeing changes in insurance approvals that affected the children I served. Some who had previously received therapy were denied continued services, with their needs described as primarily behavioral.

These were children and families who still needed support. I worried about those falling through the cracks. Wanting to reach them, I teamed up with an incredible pediatric psychology practice to offer private-paying support in homes, daycares, and schools. I helped parents, caregivers, and educators explore what specific behaviors might be communicating and develop practical strategies tailored to the child that could help address behaviors.

My goal was to help the parents, and educators in a child’s life feel more equipped, more connected, and more confident in how they responded.

Bringing My Experience Together

My desire to understand behavior continued to grow. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I returned to school, graduating from Purdue Global in July 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and applied Behavior Analysis.

Studying the science of applied behavior analysis added another layer of understanding behavioral function and how environment plays a role in the way we respond.  My experience in pediatric psychology setting also deepened my understanding of the emotional layer that can be easily overlooked and unseen.

I began to see how these perspectives complemented one another and why many of my clients did not fully qualify for either service. I also realized there was a need for support that brought these pieces together.

I wanted to create a service where these parts of a child’s experience could be considered together where families felt heard and supported as they learned new ways to understand and respond.

My Next Chapter

That passion led me to create To My Behavior.

This practice reflects what I’ve learned through my work, my education, and my own family: understanding takes curiosity, connection takes effort, and growth looks different for everyone.

I want to help children recognize their strengths, build the skills they need, and feel more confident expressing themselves. I want parents and caregivers to feel supported as they discover what behavior may be communicating and how they can respond with both compassion and clear boundaries while connecting with their child.

To me, Behavior is a part of our script in our story that we get to decide the genre! Let ours be a love story!  A letter to the child we’re getting to know, to the family learning together, and to the possibilities that open when we look at behavior with curiosity.

Changing the way we look at behavior—one child, one family, one story at a time.

I’m glad you’re here. I look forward to being part of your next chapter.
